Setting up Public Access Printers (UCMPrint) on Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) or higher

UCMPrint only works on campus with a secure wireless connection, ethernet, or VPN.

1. Click the Apple logo, then click System Preferences...

Before proceeding, make sure you are using MAC OS X 10.8 (Mount Lion) or higher.

Verify that you are connected to the UC Merced network either directly, or through VPN.

2. Click Printers & Scanners.

Click Printers & Scanners.

Printers & Scanners may be listed as Print & Scan depending on the operating system.

3. Click "+" to add a new printer.

4. Control+Click on any open area in the toolbar to bring up the toolbar menu options.  Then select Customize Toolbar....

5. Locate Advanced icon, drag the icon to the menu bar, then click Done.

6. Click Advanced.

7. Enter the information as shown in the image below, then click Add.

Depending on your operating system you may have Type listed as "Windows" instead of "Windows printer via spoolss".

You may enter either UCMGlobal or UCMColor in the Name field.

- UCMGlobal is for black and white printing only.

- UCMColor is for color printing only.

8. Check box for "Duplex Printing Unit", then click OK.

9. Select the desired printer, then click Open Print Queue...

10. Click Printer, then select Print Test Page.  

Click Printer, then select Print Test Page.  

11. Enter the information as shown in the image below, check Remember this password in my keychain,  then OK.

Password is your UC Merced password.

12. The print job has been submitted to UCMPrint and can be released at the nearest UCMPrint - enabled printer.
